In our quest to create the ultimate Pinot Noir, we take our highest aim in crafting The Approach barrel selection blend. This wine is only made in exceptional vintages, and in that regard, 2022 had it all: a solid set on the vine in Spring, even ripening weather through the Summer and early Fall, with a swift and timely harvest in mid-September. Aged 15 months in French Oak barrels, this small-lot blend was made without constraints or limitations other than the ever-elusive challenge of creating “the best possible Pinot Noir”. With this in mind, we humbly present our 2022 offering of The Approach.

The Grail Story
Dan Kosta’s journey began in Sonoma County, where a childhood surrounded by vineyards grew into a legacy of winemaking excellence. As co-founder of Kosta Browne Winery, he achieved global recognition when Wine Spectator named the 2009 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir the #1 Wine of the Year.
With Grail by Dan Kosta, he continues to push the boundaries of what is possible with Pinot Noir. Every step is deliberate—every decision purposeful. Partnering with pristine single-vineyard sources, Dan and winemaker Shane Finley hand-select grapes, barrels, and every detail of the winemaking process to craft wines that embody California’s Grand Cru.
